In Memoriam – Hossein SamadiGeriatric Psychiatrist
The Windward Team is mourning the loss of our dear friend and colleague, Dr. Hossein Samadi, who died unexpectedly on September 25, 2020.
Dr. Samadi worked with us for the past several years as a consulting geropsychiatrist, seeing patients at our Banker’s Hill office; he also acted as the Windward Home Health Medical Director.
A board-certified psychiatrist specializing in the diagnosis, treatment and management of psychiatric conditions affecting older adults, Dr. Samadi began his clinical practice in San Diego County in 2011. In addition to his work with Windward, Dr. Samadi was the consulting psychiatrist for a number of long-term care facilities in San Diego County and was an assistant clinical professor at UC San Diego.
Dr. Samadi had a patient- and family-centered approach in his work, frequently including the patient, their family caregiver, their Aging Life Care Manager, and members of the professional caregiving team in his patient visits. He had high regard for the input of all of these parties that allowed him to make an accurate diagnosis and create a personalized treatment plan. Dr. Samadi had compassion for his patients and sought to find long-term solutions that were medically and socially appropriate for each person’s situation.
All of us at Windward are better for having known and learned from Dr. Samadi. We pledge to carry forward the knowledge he gave us to continue to improve the lives of older adults facing mental health and cognitive challenges.
