Home care aides are an important part of our continuum of care. We believe that training is key to our employees’ success with our clients. Windward’s new home care aides participate in a thorough training program that prepares them for working with older and disabled clients in their own homes. We are proud that our caregiver turnover rate is roughly half the industry average. For the last five years, we have been recognized as a San Diego Union-Tribune “Top Workplace.”
Windward Life Care’s proprietary Compass Care Certification is a 10-hour training program required of all our home care aides. Through a combination of online, classroom, and return demonstration learning, our home care aides build on their established knowledge in the areas of healthy aging, client safety, dementia care, mental health, developmental disability, end-of-life care, and the prevention of abuse and neglect.
Windward’s RN clinical services manager checks the skills of each home care aide to ensure proficiency. A Compass Care certificate is awarded when the aide passes the final exam. Ongoing continuing education is required for all staff throughout the year.
Our clients’ well-being is our greatest concern. We take several steps to ensure the safety and security of our clients and their property.
Beginning in 2016, the State of California required that all home care companies be licensed, thus providing consumers with greater assurance when allowing caregivers into their home. Windward Life Care is a licensed Home Care Organization (HCO) with the Home Care Service Bureau.
All our home care aides are also individually registered with the Home Care Services Bureau, which requires criminal background checks. Because we believe in adhering to the best practices in our field, Windward is also a member organization of the California Association for Health Services at Home, the Home Care Association of America, and the National Association of Home Care & Hospice.
We know that the protection of our clients’ homes and property is also extremely important. Windward holds general and professional liability insurance, as well as bond insurance. Our Aging Life Care Managers make regular home visits to monitor the activity in our clients’ homes. All staff receive ongoing training in the identification and prevention of elder abuse and neglect. These are only a few ways that we ensure quality and safety, and provide our clients the assurance that they are working with experienced professionals.
